Lots of interesting frames were brought along which made upcycling a challenging task. Lots if different finishes were achieved with all the ribbons and materials provided, glue aplenty and a very diverse set of frames emerged.

A very informative and interesting talk on breast problems including cancer, incorporating statistics, risk factors, genetics, treatment options, counselling. Also a practical session using plastic models to detect different breast lumps and how to carry out breast examination. How to reduce risk factors. Afterwards we held our AGM looking back over the last years' activities, current Financial situation, we voted in a new committee, discussed National and local WI Federation events and information and talked about this years' activities and fundraising events.

March 2016

Chocolate making workshop by Andrew Thwaite from Autism Plus

This was a great turnout and a very fun and informative session. Andrew gave an introduction into the social enterprise, based at Gilling East, near York, and the work it does for autistic people and helping them to integrate into society and finding jobs. He also told us about his work and travelling as a chocolatier, the history of chocolate and some interesting facts before demonstrating how to make filled chocolates and the equipment needed. The samples were very yummy!!!! (fresh lime, chilli and mint). The session was enjoyed by all so a big thank you to Andrew.

April 2016

Shoeberry party at Northallerton shop - Lucy Carr.

We changed venues and were welcomed to Lucy's shop in Northallerton. Lucy kindly provided drinks and nibbles for us and started the session with a fun pictionary quiz. She also talked to us about how she set up her business. There was ample opportunity to try on any clothes and shoes and look through her entire shop, including bags, purses, socks. Lucy also gave everyone a 15% discount on all purchases and provided us with loyalty cards. This was a really fun evening and was enjoyed by all.

May 2016

'A Country Childhood in words and song' by Zeke Deighton

A very interesting and entertaining evening with Zeke, giving us a glimpse of his life growing up in a small Yorkshire village in the 1940's, 50's and 60's. His full one man show lasts about 3 hours but Zeke managed to fit a lot of information into an hour and a half. His show is about his own reminiscences, interwoven with folk songs (with choruses for us to join in) and readings from some of his favourite books. He is an outstanding singer with a powerful voice and we all had a very enjoyable evening. Thanks to Zeke for entertaining us.

June 2016

Burlesque

Wow, what a fantastic session! Miss Tobi James, a professional Burlesque performer, dance teacher and fitness instructor talked to us about the many genres Burlesque takes, its history, how she got into it, her classes/workshops and showcases, and performed a short routine that we would then go on to learn. It was a complete workout which got us all hot and bothered! We managed to learn the routine well and performed it to the best of our abilities. It was a great fun session and was very empowering. Burlesque is for everyone - all shapes and sizes and whatever your ability. Thanks so much for a fabulous, fun and somewhat sexy taster class.

Car Boot Sale

July 2016

AirTrail at Tees Barage

Wow what a day we had climbing, balancing, pulling, shoving and gliding through the air on the zip wire! It was a very doable course - some managed one or two levels and some daredevils managed to go to the very top! The kids took part too and we all really enjoyed the challenge and thrill. We also had a lovely picnic in the sun beforehand and a lovely day bonding by encouraging each other along and generally enjoying ourselves. Great fun! Would definitely recommend for all ages and abilities - we had a 3-year-old doing the kiddie Airtrail course and a 77-year-old doing the full-blown course. Full instruction and guidance was given from instructors. Great value for money too at only £7 per person!

August 2016

Tour of Bedale Museum

A very interesting evening spent at Bedale Museum located at Bedale Hall starting with a tour of the house from the grand hall now used for wedding receptions and parties to the servants quarters in the attic, then on to the museum stuffed with items - some even being remembered by a couple of us ! A very informative and worthwhile visit thanks to the knowledge of Richard and Geoff from Bedale Hall/Bedale Museum.

Autumn Show

September 2016

Bell Ringing at St. Gregory’s Church, Bedale

Attended practice session with Bedale bell ringers. A fun and informative evening. Had tour of belfry and explanation of how bells work and history of bell ringing. Opportunity for us to ‘have a go’ Thank you to all bell ringers for their time and patience

October 2016

Swishing Party

October saw Wythit WI trying out lots of make up and skincare products after an informative Younique demo from Angela. We then went on to hold our Swishing Party which involves everyone bring some items they no longer want and swapping them for items someone else has brought along. There were clothes, bags, shoes, and accessories to choose from. It's a great way of getting some new stuff for free. We swapped away and had a natter and some nibbles. Then everyone went away with their new discoveries! Not a great turnout, but it didn't matter - we had a great time anyway.

November 2016

Doorstops and Pinboards

Ladies enjoyed sewing their own beach hut or cat doorstops with Yvonne Preston. Some fancy pinboards were also created.

December 2016

Cocktail and mocktail making – by staff of Black Swan

A very enjoyable evening. The group was shown how to make 5 cocktails and 1 mocktail. We all got to taste each cocktail/mocktail and decide which we liked best. We then got to order 1 cocktail/mocktail to drink. Nibbles provided by WI and opportunity to have a chat. It was all very yummy!
