Wythit WI Activities/Meetings in 2019:
We hope you enjoy looking at our pictures and event details below. For other years please select the following links:
January
Our January meeting saw us having a meaningful discussion about the committee and Officer roles and the tasks involved. Interesting to say the least! We then went on to do a quiz in teams based upon the London Underground system - cryptic clues which didn't turn out to be too difficult to answer. It was fun.
February
AGM and cheese tasting
This month was our AGM. We heard from our President on our activities from last year with some photos included and what 2019 holds for us and from our Treasurer re our financial situation which is very good. Then it was time to vote in our new committee - some new faces and some job sharing which should make the most of all the great skills of our committee members. This was followed by a very social wine and cheese evening.
March
Bean Creative - Copper Pipe ring making
Geraldine from Bean Creative based in Redcar demonstrated how to make rings from copper piping. Members and guests then set about cutting the piping, filing and then beating individual designs to personalise their rings. The activity was a great success with lots of interaction and admiration of the member's handiwork. A really good, creative and hands-on activity. A massive thanks to Geraldine.
April
Guide Dog Information night
We were visited by Honey, a beautiful golden retriever starting out on her journey to be a guide dog. Guide Dogs are in this their 100th year and we learnt about the dog traits needed, their training and puppy walking. They are always looking for new puppy walker volunteers (they get lots of support from the Guide Dog Assocation). Visit them at: Guide Dogs

Alistair Baldwin, Landscape Architect
Alistair Baldwin, Landscape Architect gave a really interesting and informative slideshow on the design and planting of the beautiful Rose Garden at Wynyard Hall when Sir John Hall wanted a rose garden for the 21st Century. We were taken through from the beginning of what was needed to be considered regarding the design challenges on a sloping site, ensuring access to all aspects of the garden, the choice and variety of roses (which were beautiful) and the fountains. Alistair ended with a Q & A session which hopefully will inspire us all to get gardening.
June
Biscuit decorating and Yummy Fudge tasting
Our fun evening started with a Fudge Quiz allowing us to try out lots of fun fudge flavours led by Made at Muddfields. With our rolling pins at the ready we let our creative juices flow we decorated home made biscuits (one of which was suitable for vegans).

Singing
Our Sing Your Heart Out workshop this week hit all the right notes. Susan Harris led us through vocal techniques and voice warm ups, one of which was blowing through a straw to make bubbles in water. If you want to know more you'll have to ask one of those who were there. By the end of the evening we were singing our hearts out and raising the roof of The Shed.
August
Morris Dancing
High Heels were not recommended for Morris Dancing so we left them at home and came prepared for some fun. Lots of laughter, bells, stamping and clapping could be heard during the evening as we tried to keep up with the very energetic dancers from Harlequin Women's Morris from Darlington. It was such fun and a fab time was had by all.
October
Swishing Party
Tonight was our Swishing Party with scrummy nibbles; new homes found for lots of cool clothes ( are we ready for the Victoria Secrets Cat Walk )
November
Jewellery Sparkles
What a lovely sparkly party we all had on Sunday evening with Sarah Heron from Jewellery Sparkles Ltd - bringing Park Lane Jewellery to U.K. A fun ice breaker ending in one lucky WI member receiving a free piece of jewellery, an interesting talk about Sarah's business and the Park Lane Jewellery Ltd company and its origins, some styling tips from Sarah, lots of questions from our members and then a nice browse of all the gorgeous sparkly items on show. I indulged myself and bought some really pretty pieces and bought a Christmas pressie too as did some other ladies. There was time for a nice natter together too!
December
Yoga Meditation
We were joined by Rachel who led a very relaxing and de-stressing evening with yoga and meditation, giving us some well earned time out before Christmas. A well delivered session we all enjoyed.
